Course Description:

EngrECE113E: Analog and Communications IC Design (4)

Advanced topics in design of analog and communications integrated circuits. Topics include: overview of frequency response of amplifiers, lossy transmission lines, design of RF low-noise amplifiers, mixers, and IF filters; oscillators, phase-locked loops. Prerequisite: ECE113D. (Design units: 3)

Resources:

Textbook:

The Design of CMOS Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits, First Edition, Thomas. H. Lee, Cambridge University Press, 1998.

Supplemental:

RF Microelectronics, First Edition, Behzad Razavi, Prentice Hall, 1998.

Notes and solutions will be available for a fee in the Engineering Copy Center (ET 203)

Course Objective:

The course sets out in detail how to design high-speed radio-frequency (RF) integrated circuits. Students will learn how to design the building blocks of a communication integrated circuit including low-noise amplifiers, mixers, and IF filters, oscillators, and phase-locked loops using various design techniques.
